Stranded in the middle of nowhere

My Blog

Chindonesian guy with very poor Chinese sense. Refused to learn Chinese as a child, and having regrets about it now. (very) Slowly keeping up with the regrets by listening to Mandarin music and tuning into Taiwan entertaiment shows.

The most idiotic ministry in Indonesia...

Posted by lefhen at 12:35 PM on April 5, 2008.

And the winner is: DEPKOMINFO!! That is the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. And they acted as if they were really smart and knew what they are doing.

I can't understand what kind of job they are actually doing. First, it was the UU ITE (Regulatory of Electronic Information and Transaction), which is totally a waste of money. I understand that it rules many aspects around IT stuffs. However, they make it as if the regulation is mostly about pornography over the net. Fussing about closing pornographic sites, and seems to put a lot of effort on it rather than focusing on other more critical cyber crimes. Not to mention their effort is totally ineffective. How do you expect to wipe off all the access to pornography? Rather than using up the money to create that silly rule and block access to pornographic sites, using the money for enhancing infrastructure of the IT in Indonesia to create cheap and accessible Internet for the people all around Indonesia is far of more productive and meaningful.

Then, now they are talking about closing access to Youtube, just because of a movie called Fitna! For crying out loud, get a grip!! Just because of one silly movie, and you're closing Youtube? And it's not like it is Youtube's fault. I understand that the movie is considered as inappropriate and offensive by moslems, but is shutting down Youtube the right thing to do? And now, they're shutting down access to other sites as well, like Multiply, Rapidshare, MySpace. What the heck?! Why don't they close down the Internet and let Indonesian live in an isolated world and become farmers instead? All because of one single movie, and they're blocking all access to other information at the same time.

You may agree or disagree with me. But I don't really think Depkominfo has been taking the correct steps for these issues. Waste of people's money... really!! Paying taxes for these kind of stuffs really pisses me off!!!
