Stranded in the middle of nowhere

My Blog

Chindonesian guy with very poor Chinese sense. Refused to learn Chinese as a child, and having regrets about it now. (very) Slowly keeping up with the regrets by listening to Mandarin music and tuning into Taiwan entertaiment shows.

One Million Star: done!

Posted by lefhen at 04:34 PM on December 19, 2007.

1st group albumI've just finished watching the first season of One Million Star (a.k.a. Chao Ji Xing Guang Da Dao in Chinese) last week. Call me late, but there's nothing I can do since I don't have premium channels at home. Luckily, I can get free satellite channel CETV, who is kind enough to air it, eventhough it is a year late (I think the second season is over by now). Not really excited about the final result, but I'm not complaining either. The winner, Yoga Lin You Jia, definitely can sing, but sometimes I find his singing expression annoying. Anyhow, better him than the others who are left.

2nd group albumActually I am rooting for Aska Yang Zong Wei. It's a shame that he decided to withdraw from the competition due to age falsifying. I think he is the best singer in the competition. He is really good at melancholic songs, making audiences really feel the sadness of the songs, and frequently brings tears in the eyes. Yet he is famous already. I heard that he is going to release his album in January next year (yay!). Really looking forward to it.

Afalean LuActually several albums have been launched as a result of the show. Two of them are a compilation from all the contestants, a.k.a. Xing Guang Bang. Included in the latter one is several new songs from Aska, Yoga, Stanly, Peter, and Judy. I love Aska's song "Duo Yu". Yoga's "Na Shou Ge" is not bad either. The latest album is coming from Afalean Lu Xue Rui, the 4th place winner, who apparently is under a contract with Sony BMG unlike most of the others who are under HIM. That's why I cannot find him in the second group album.

Well, I enjoyed the first season. Dunno about the second. All I know the second season is filled with female contestants, in the contrary with the first which are dominated by male. But heck, I'm just going to focus on waiting for Aska's album, hehehe...

Da Zui Ba (Da Mouth)

Posted by lefhen at 06:35 PM on December 29, 2007.

Da MouthIf you're feelin' for some upbeat music, you can try the songs from the new group Da Mouth's album. Personally, I'm not into this kind of songs. But since I found out that one of the personnel is Ai Sha, ex-member of Sunday Girls, I thought I'd gave it a try. I can say that the album is not bad at all. Full of dance beat, not-so-hiphop, a bit of slow songs. OK laaa...

Da Mouth has a total of 4 personnel. 3 male members and a single female, Ai Sha. When I first see this group, Ai Sha is the only one I was able to recognize. She's been long enough in Taiwan's entertainment business. A Japanese trying to find some luck in Taiwan. Formed a group with other 3 girls called Sunday Girls. But I guess the female group didn't make it long in the business. But some of the members, including Ai Sha, were able to stay alive by participating in entertainment shows. I always liked her shows on TV. Looked kinda dumb since she is a foreigner, yet energetic. In Da Mouth, she somewhat appears more mature and her Mandarin has far improved. Probably it is necessary to match her image to the funkiness of Da Mouth.
