A very popular Chinese singer and well-known in Asia. This small-size singer has a wonderful voice and has earned herself the MTV Asia Award for the Favorite Music Artist from Singapore for three times in a row in the last three years (2002, 2003, and 2004).
The truth is I never even liked her when I first saw and heard her on TV. She looked out of order. Really skinny looking.
Until once, I actually liked her song "Wo Bu Nan Guo". No deep interest. Just the song matched my taste.
And then another song taken from the soundtrack "Xiang Zuo Zou, Xiang You Zou (Turn Left, Turn Right)", "Yu Jian" sang by Stephanie Sun. A very soft song, using only the piano for the melody, exposing her great voice.
The time that I really realized how beautiful her voice is when she became the guest star of a Taiwanese TV show "Guess! Guess! Guess!". The people were told to guess which was the real Stephanie Sun just by listening to three different singing voices. They were singing "Tian Hei Hei". All three voices sounded very similar. But, I knew that the first voice was the original Stephanie Sun. Her voice was up in the clouds. The weird thing was all of the guessers guessed wrong! Probably they thought they were going to be tricked, so they chose the most unlike Stephanie kind of voice :P
And now, this "Tian Hei Hei" song have become my favorite of hers. If you like slow, melancholic songs, probably you would like it too.
My advice for Stephanie... eat well, girl. You won't get too fat, trust me.

For the part marked with "in Hokkian", it was sung in Hokkian language. I've written the Mandarin pronunciation, cos I'm not sure about the pronunciation in Hokkian.
But, it won't be much of a problem. Just sing along with her :)

Twins
Posted by lefhen at 09:13 AM on July 9, 2004.
Yesterday, I went to visit my friend who just had a baby twins. Yup, you heard it, twins!! Just want to wish the parents and their babies the best. Planning to make a bigger family in the future? :P
Well actually, twins is not a new thing for me. I have triplets cousins. The triplets' cousins are also twins. The neighbor just across the street has a boy-girl twins. Once, the people lived at the back of my house also have triplets (a boy and two girls). Not to mention that some of my university friends are twins as well.
It's funny when you were just expecting only one to come out. Instead you have two or more coming your way. They said the more the merrier. But personally, the idea about what's going to happen financially, freaks me out. Every costs is doubling up. Food, clothes, school fees... Wow!! @_@
Of course, we can't complain. After all, they're our children, our own flesh and blood. No matter what, we have to find ways to manage it all. I guess that once you've become a parent, it comes with our instinct to take care of our children. Basically, we need to be emotionally prepared when we take that decision to build up a new family of our own.
BTW, do twins have psychological link? I wonder...

Skinny is beautiful?
Posted by lefhen at 11:58 AM on July 12, 2004.
What I'm about to discuss here is the trend which I think is happening in the world of Taiwan entertaining, including Singapore and Hong Kong. *No, Raf. No complaints about me talking about oriental stuffs in my blog*
I notice most of Singaporean/Taiwanese/Hong Kong celebrities are trying to keep their body as skinny as possible, especially female celebrities. Male celebrities are also aware about their shape, I guess. But the female ones are the ones that are looking obviously skinny.
I realize that being fat is a nightmare for most women in the world. But, starve themselves? Leaving nothing under their skins but bones? Hmm... is that what being sexy is all about?
The most noticeable part is their arms. No meat can be seen in that area. All you can find is a bone-shaped arm. As a male (note: a straight one), the scene is horrid. Not to mention the health issue. Just imagine if your body got sick, would your body have enough strength to recover?
The worst part is the celebrities are the society role model. The idea that skinny equals beauty is infecting all their fans. Now everyone is trying to look like their idol, that is to get all the fat out of their metabolism. Tight diet. Exercises. Apples for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Slimming pills. All for one goal: to be skinny.
This causes a serious self-confidence issue. This formed a mindset that you cannot fit to the society if you're fat. Definitely it was wrong. But apparently, it's becoming... umm, can you call it 'a culture'? Once I watched Channel News Asia, discussing about this issue in Singapore. It said that actually fat people are having a hard time buying clothes for their sizes. Most of the stores only sell cloths with no sizes (all size) and that size is only for people that are... umm, not fat. Wow! Now you are forced to be skinny, how's that?

Vincent (Starry, Starry Night), by Josh Groban
Posted by lefhen at 01:44 PM on July 15, 2004.
I don't know why... but I think I like this song under my sister's influence. I don't even know what the song is all about. Probably because I'm not a poetic person. And who is this Vincent anyway??
Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)
by: Josh Groban
Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colours on the snowy linen land
[***]:
Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds and violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colours changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artists' loving hand
[***]
For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

Enjoying a meal outside with just me family
Posted by lefhen at 11:01 AM on July 19, 2004.
Finally my family actually managed to spare some time to eat outside together. Just the four of us - me dad, me mom, me sis and me.
Somehow the food tasted a lot better. Probably it was because I was enjoying the togetherness. Especially with big crabs on the plate :D
Well, we do eat together a lot at home. But this was different. At home, me mom cooks the meal by herself. Sometimes I thought to myself how she worked very hard to prepare the meal day by day and how she never complains (well... sometimes she does :P). But what can I do? I can't cook, or probably I should learn?
Back to the story... The difference with eating outside was that me mom needed not to think about anything except enjoying the dishes. And with that thought, it kinda cheered me up.
Hmm... probably we should do this more often. But... the price? T__T
Yes, it was expensive if you compare it with home-made dishes. Other than that, me dad always complains about the dirtiness of outside dishes, how they cook, how they wash the plates, etc. That's why we rarely eat outside...
